An elder I know was accepted to be an International Delegate -$9,000 for 2 people!
by BonaFide inhe is an elder, and he and his wife were "accepted" to go to south africa.
including airfare, hotel, food, general tours, it comes to $9,000.. have any of you experienced this or seen this before?
i was out of the country for some years, so i haven't kept up with prices of being a delegate.. so, if they were to go without the "international delegate" designation, would it still be $9000?.

Even before I was baptized, an elderly sister said, some 30 years ago "well, Aligot will do things with others but always remains an individual" and the brother whom I was studying with pointed out that I would always sit on the aisle in the KH. I had to explain that I wanted to always be ready for the exit. Later on, an elder put it another way, saying that, as a baptized JW, I was on the fringe, sort of marginal, a status which I accepted gladly.

My SIL is accepted to be a delegate to an assembly in France, from an overseas french department. There are a few strings attached to the status, one which I know of is that she won't stay with us during the assy but in the hotel booked by the organisation. Good thing in a way, she's divorced and would like to remarry, will have opportunities for "wholesome association".

Since Fred completed his earthly course, this organisation has been shockinly in want of imagination. Some drudges in the writing departement painstakingly regurgitate old worn out articles. Shall we ever dream again with antitypical fulfillments of prophecies and dates computing that will keep us getting our breath back and our eyes fixed on prize ? I want Fred back.

I'm still formally a JW, although I've not preached for about 2 years, and my wife hardly goes, maybe one hour every 6 months. I accompagny her to the WE meeting when she wants to go, which is not everytime. None of us attends the midweek meeting anymore, it is a sort of concerted, orderly fading. I was privileged one month ago with being the subject of a special needs talk (we were on holiday but I heard of it when back) whereby the congregation was urged to mark me, lest I weaken the faith of those I talk with. This way I find more time to fix up things in the house and tend my garden.

Did You/ Do You Believe Marriages Are Supposed To Be Forever?
by minimus inthe majority of people i know who are married either have cheated at least once or have mentioned regret to ever having married.
as witnesses, we were taught that marriage should be lifelong unless adultery occured and even if it did, many times, eccouragement was given to forgive.. now, i see many couples go thru the motions but almost hate their status.. so, are marriages meant to be "forever" or what?.

Hey, Calvay, welcome to the board. I fully agree with the fist part of your post, a bit less with the second one. I would prefer to see my 2 teen children skip that test marriage stage, if possible (doesn't seem to me to guarantee a happy relashionship, for the very reasons you mentioned at the beginning of your post), if they want to get married at all.

My wife wanted one absolutely, I bought an Electrolux which I thought was a good brand, spilled water all over the place after 18 months. Left it where it is and we are now happily hand washing.

Clarifying the Trinity Doctrine
by UnDisfellowshipped insince there is so much confusion among ex-jw's, jw's, and christians in general about exactly what the trinity doctrine is, i decided to post this to clarify this teaching.. the historical trinity doctrine of the christian (protestant and catholic) churches has always been this:.
* there is only one true god by nature.. * there are three distinct persons who share equally the nature of god.. * there are not three different gods (that is the false doctrine of tritheism or polytheism).. * there is not one person who is revealed three different ways (that is the false doctrine of modalism).. * however, each person of the trinity does have his own "role" or "function.
" the son willingly obeys the father.

Well, well, the first thing that appealed to me when I started talking with JWs was their simple approach to God's nature, because, although a catholic, I had never managed to believe this complex trinity thing, which just looked like an unnecessary intellectual exercise, unwothy of a god who wants to let himself known by the humblest persons. I 'm leaving the JWs now, for reasons which are common to many of us, but I think I will stick to their notion of God, more within my intellectual grasp.

Yes, marriage is a good frame for personal and economic accomplishment, if one manages to make it work. A small detail, though, it takes two to succeed in it. Good thing wifey and I are on the same wavelength in this respect.

Black Families & Shunning
by snowbird inafter reading password's blog on freeminds, and following the thread about the 7/09 awake, i am saddened to hear the experiences of so many who have been shunned by their families.. i confess that when i first started reading at this site - 8 years ago - i couldn't believe what i was seeing.
i knew that df'd persons were to be excluded from any spiritual interaction, but i'd never personally witnessed the extreme shunning that the society encourages.. i've often mentioned that this seldom happens in black families.
of course, i have no statistical evidence to back this up, but i have yet to see a family in my area practice this kind of shunning.

I believe this tradition of keeping the family close...
May I differ, Snowbird,
In French Caribbean overseas departments (Martinique, Guadeloupe, to which we can add French Guyana), I know from experience that one has to make a distinction between "registered" official families and "natural" ones, which are quite many. Only the former ones are, on the whole, close knitted, and certainly not the latter ones. I, personnaly, find different behaviour, as to shunning, in all communities, white, mixed, black, Indians (coolies as some call them, overthere) and Asians. Asians, particularly, are used to working professionally together within families and they are less likely to shun one another. Like Purps, I tend to think that one determining factor is whether those families have a -stick-to-the-rule elder among their members, in which case the atmosphere will be, indeed, more stiffling.
